As Kalyn Braun began sharing her Apple Valley-to-Texas story, the sound of gunfire erupted and shattered the conversation.

“So sorry about that, we were supposed to go to Six Flags and we ended up going to the gun range instead,” said Braun, during a recent phone conversation.

“I guess it’s a Texas thing.”

Braun is one of the stars of Style Network’s reality TV show “Big Rich Texas,” which follows five mother-daughter duos as they try to assimilate themselves into Dallas’ high society.

Braun, 18, became a regular on the show when her godmother and pageant trainer, Leslie Birkland asked Braun to join her as part of a mother-daughter team for the show which premiered in July.

Braun, who was born and raised in the High Desert, said the culture shock from California to Texas was minor.
